We had to put together a character model pack for our character design class. It was based more on personality, so I came up with a Jane Fonda-esque Ostrich, who has devoted her life to aerobics and yoga. Eighties themed.
Quick side note - I cannot believe there’s only two and a half weeks left of school. First year is almost over and it has flown by. There’s been a lot of ups and downs but I feel I’ve grown as, not only an artist, but a person as well. All the talented and knowledgeable animation faculty have opened my eyes to a new side of animation, and for that I am very thankful. Enjoy.
Just a few sketches from two sketchbooks I’ve been working in during the school year. There’s some character design, subway/GO train sketches, some friends, randoms, the last unicorn. Some may recognize a couple animation faculty too =P Enjoy.
This is my first animal walk cycle and that’s evident. We’re all our own worst critics when it comes to art and animation. The front legs are rough and need work. The front right leg doesn’t extend back far enough, giving a limp look to it. The back right leg, when I first shot the animation, didn’t lift off the ground. I really shouldn’t animate at three in the morning. I went back and fixed up the leg, it looks a bit better. If only I had more time, and didn’t have a migraine (that’s not an excuse, I swear!). I really want to animate another greyhound as well as other animals this summer. Keeping the front legs a third ahead of the back legs is challenging but fun. Oh, just a quick side note - I shot this animation on two’s when I probably should have shot it on one’s. I will post the one’s animation when I get time to shoot it again. Enjoy.
Here’s two sketches I’ve done in the past week. The first is a little girl who was screaming at her mum while I sat ten feet away at the Toronto zoo. The second is Mike and our mutual friend Mark, both slaving away in a print studio at Sheridan.
Below is my zoo portfolio I had to submit to my life drawing professor. That day was freezing and in the middle of March break. You could only imagine how many angry children there were at the zoo *cringe*. I loathe the cold (I was miserable), and my drawings reflect that. I’m a California girl at heart. Enjoy.
Here’s my first animated head turn and lip sync. There’s always room for improvement, and I’m looking forward to animating more lip syncs. Oh, I chose Harley Quinn from Batman: The Animated Series, ’cause she’s tough and sexy! Enjoy.
More PS sketching :O This took me about fifteen minutes. It’s based off a photo of, I’m assuming, Nicole Richie from an advertisement on Facebook (I was working with what I had =P). Enjoy.
Here’s a quick painting/sketch I did in Photoshop. I find I’m mostly drawing in PS when I’m at home and just feel like doodling. Totally neglecting my sketchbook :O What’s wrong with me?! I’ve turned to the dark side. Enjoy.
Here’s one of my rough drawings from a character sequence assignment we were given. Mine basically revolves around a fish who loves music. This is frame three; he’s curious over the sun polyps. Enjoy.
