Here’s pretty much my first attempt ever at a simple background in Photoshop. The Pink Panther will be taking a stroll through it pretty soon. He’s being inked as we speak. Enjoy.

Haven’t we all been there one way or another? I’m trying to sketch outside my comfort zone and this certainly reflects that. Below is my attempt at some layout, ugh. Layout and I don’t get on so well together. It’s a love-hate relationship to say the least. I didn’t realize my vanishing points weren’t actually on the horizon line until I handed it in to be marked. Dale said it still worked properly in perspective so HAH. Take THAT, layout Gods! Enjoy.

Two pieces from my painting layout class. The first a simple painting assignment: render an imaginary ball in an imaginary setting. It was a nice, quick fifteen minute painting. Gouache.
The second piece is a rough tonal thumbnail of a painting I’m in the process of creating. Crushed graphite.
I had two other drawings to post but my scanner isn’t wanting to work properly with my new computer. Another time. Enjoy.

This was the first painting assignment we had this year. We were asked to paint four of the same surreal layouts with gouache on illustration board.
The first 5″x7″ painting was painted using a flat opaque method with black and white. The second painting introduced the gradation flow of shapes. The third painting was fully rendered and the fourth was our favourite painting (of the three) painted in a monochromatic colour scheme (of our choice).
I left this assignment until the last possible moment (b/c I wasn’t too interested in it >>) so I ended up painting for ten hours in one sitting. The paintings could have been so much better. By the time I reached the fourth painting I stopped caring. The blue on the hand is incredibly rushed and needs a complete overhaul. Somehow I still got an “A”.
Enjoy.
